UPDATE 12-10-06: Dear Friends - It is a very, very sad day at CCAS. Despite the best efforts of our private veterinarians, Chiquita passed away during her surgery. We are all completely devastated, but we know Chiquita would not want us to give in to our despair. She is over the Bridge, out of pain and playing happily, and looking down and thanking all of us for working together to try to help her. We have named our medical fund The Chiquita Memorial Fund in honor and remembrance of this precious little life that was lost so needlessly. We are hoping that you will consider making a donation so that we can help the next animal that comes to us, broken and in pain, desparately needing our help. We thank everyone for your generosity, kind hearts and love of the animals. Original posting: Please don't turn away - This is Chiquita. Chiquita is a seven month old Chihuahua who was brought to our Shelter on a demand from her owners that she be put to sleep. Chiquita was hit by a car and left to writhe in pain for three days until the owners surrendered her. She was brought to us with a mangled leg, severe dehydration, hypothermia and in shock. Instead of putting her to sleep, we took Chiquita to our private veterinarian. They believe that Chiquita can be saved! Chiquita is now in the full-time care of the vet's office and will be undergoing surgery tomorrow - We are all sending our best thoughts for good results. WE DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FUND CHIQUITA'S CARE. Our medical fund is down to nothing after treating some of the dogs friends of our Shelter may be familiar with - Miller, Cassidy, Wiggles, Annie, Dixie, to name a few. We must raise the funds for Chiquita's care immediately. The only way we can save this little life is with the help of our community.
