Sad News: Zero Has Lost His Fight

Today is a day of complete and utter sadness - Zero passed away last night. He took his last breath in his foster mother’s arms knowing love for probably the first time in his life. The Camden County Animal Shelter and Zero’s foster mother did everything possible to save Zero. Despite our best efforts to do so we can’t always undo the damage that has been done. CCAS would like to thank everyone who made donations for Zero’s care. Please be rest assured that all donations received will be used to help another sick or injured animal. Unfortunately there are far too many animals that come to us broken and alone and in search of a happy ending. Our hope is that Zero’s death is not in vain. His legacy is to make people aware of the cruelty and abuse suffered by animals. If you know or suspect a case of animal cruelty or neglect please report it. If you see an animal on the streets alone, take the time to make the call to the authorities. If you can open up your heart and home to a homeless animal, please adopt. Do it in memory of Zero.

Please don't look away - This is Zero. Zero is named for Jack's skeleton dog from the Nightmare Before Christmas - Because Zero is a skeleton. Zero should weigh about 80 pounds and right now is at 34. He was brought to our Shelter by one of our wonderful Animal Control Officers who found him on the streets. Zero was not on the streets long - We can tell this by the fact that there is very little wear and tear on his coat or paws - No, some "person" did this to Zero, by deliberately starving him nearly to death. Had he not been found, a night or two on the streets in this cold would have been the end for him - But we are dedicated to saving this beautiful boy! One of our incredible volunteers is fostering Zero and he is in a warm, loving home and awaiting his first vet visits. We are hoping that Zero's story will help folks understand the need and importance of becoming a foster parent - Without our fosters, a dog like Zero would have very little chance at recovery. Zero is going to need private veterinary care, which the Shelter does not have the funds to provide.

If you would like to help us save Zero, please visit our website at www.ccasnj.org or E-mail us at CamCoShelter@yahoo.com. We will provide updates on Zero's condition as soon as possible and thank you for your caring for the animals!

: **Update** CCAS is very pleased to bring you this update from Zero's foster family!
"First of all, our entire family......including our other dogs just LOVE Zero. He is showing some signs of improvement and gaving his strength back. His eyes were severely sunken when arriving at my house but now they are beginning to be noticeable again as he watches us with love. Zero loves the snow and tries to eat the snow flakes as they fall. He makes us laugh. Zero's has been eating 2 or more cans of high quality dog food per day as well as 2-3 cups of dry food mixed in. He doesn't run to his water bowl as frantically as he did the first few days. He does prefer to eat from a spoon. This is merely because he is becoming spoiled more than he cannot eat on his own. His loves to be in the same room with the rest of us. He struggles to follow us through the house and then lies next to my German Shepherds to rest. I would like to thank everyone for their outpour of love, concern and donations for Zero. He is an incredible dog and has a strong will to live. It is so wonderful to see how many people, from all over, truly love animals."
