Rescue AngelsBrody's AngelsBrody had been siting in the shelter for over two months. We had no room in any foster homes to take him. We added him to the site as our featured pet in hopes that someone would either foster him or adopt him. Everyday I (Crystal, L&F volunteer) waited for an application to show up. Finally, one day when I went to look there was one there. I got so excited, then realized it was incomplete. I quickly emailed Marleen to tell her and ask if people usually go back and fill out the rest of the applications. She contacted the applicant, Jen and after speaking with her Jen went back and finished the application.
Jen wasn't even actively looking for a dog to adopt. She was bored and surfing around the net and saw our featured pet. She started filling out the application and needing to talk to her boyfriend, Shawn, about it first before finishing it. Marleen spoke with both of them and Brody was rescued from the shelter!
We pulled Brody from the shelter on a Tuesday. He went straight to the vet for his tests, shots and to be neutered. We found out that he had Lyme. I (now his temporary Foster Mom) picked him up Thursday and Jen and Shawn were going to come meet him, and if all went well take him home Saturday.
Late Thursday night Brody starting limping. I took him to the vet Friday, but couldn't get the xrays done until Monday. He would have to wait to meet his potential new mommy and daddy. Monday came and the xrays showed that he had loose bone chips in his knee, probably from being hit by a car in the past. He needed surgery.
I don't know where he came from but this poor boy must have never had to go down steps before. He was so terrified, I had to carry him in his crate down the stairs. He was such a good boy though. He loved to be where I was and loved his new ducky that I bought him. He carried it around everywhere like it was his baby!
Jen and Shawn came to meet him Tuesday night and they fell in love with him. His surgery was scheduled for the following Monday. I dropped him off in the morning and Marleen and I met Jen there Tuesday when she picked him up.
If Jen and Shawn didn't come along when they did, I hate to think what would have happened to my Brody man. He is just so sweet and a great companion. Not only did Jen and Shawn save him from the shelter but they also paid, on top of his adoption fee, for his surgery. They did all of this for a poor 4 year old, unneutered male, shelter dog, who also tested positive for Lyme and needed surgery. I am so grateful to them. I know that Brody will be loved and safe for the rest of his life.
